Douglas DC-6
The Real Aircraft
The Douglas DC-6 was a piston-powered airliner and transport aircraft that represented the pinnacle of propeller-driven commercial aviation. It was faster, had a longer range, and could carry more passengers than almost any contemporary aircraft.
Key Specifications:
- Manufacturer: Douglas Aircraft Company
- First Flight: February 15, 1946
- Introduction: March 1947 (United Air Lines)
- Type: Four-engine propliner
- Engines: 4× Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp (2,400 hp each)
- Cruise Speed: 507 km/h (315 mph)
- Range: 4,835 km (3,005 miles)
