Shavrov Sh-2

The Real Aircraft

The Shavrov Sh-2 was a Soviet amphibious flying boat designed by Vadim Shavrov in 1930. It became one of the most successful light amphibians of its era, serving extensively across the vast Soviet Union for transportation, patrol, and utility work.

Key Specifications:

  • Designer: Vadim Shavrov
  • First Flight: 1930
  • Type: Two-seat amphibious flying boat
  • Engine: M-11 radial (100 hp)
  • Cruise Speed: 120 km/h (75 mph)
  • Range: 500 km (310 miles)
  • Ceiling: 4,120 m (13,520 ft)

Over 700 Sh-2 aircraft were built between 1932 and 1939, serving with Aeroflot, the Soviet Air Force, and various civilian operators. Its robust construction, amphibious capability, and reliability made it invaluable in the remote regions of Siberia and the Far East where runways were scarce but lakes and rivers abundant.
